What is a Birth Doula?
A birth doula refers to someone who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth.

A Cochrane review of over 15,000 women found that continuous support in labour:

Increased the likelihood of vaginal delivery

Reduced C/S rate

Reduced epidural use

Improved APGAR scores
-
Improved maternal satisfaction

It was also noted that “continuous support was most effective when the provider was neither part of the hospital staff nor the woman’s social network”

Doulas:

Recognize birth as an experience the mother will remember all her life

Understand the emotional needs of a woman in labour

Assist the woman in preparing for and carrying out her plans for birth

Stay with the woman throughout the labour

Provide emotional support, physical comfort measures and an objective viewpoint

Help women get the information they need to make informed decisions

Facilitate communication between the labouring woman, her partner and her clinical care providers

What is HypnoBirthing®?

The Premise of HypnoBirthing® is that in the absence of special circumstance, you are perfectly created by nature to conceive, to nurture the development of your baby, and to birth the baby safely and normally. Birthing persons and their babies should be treated according to the status of their own health, not what could, or has, possibly happened to others. Birth has its own time frame. It may rest, or it may accelerate. It needs no manipulation or intervention, save for special circumstances. Babies will be born in their own time.

This program includes education in special breathing techniques, self-hypnosis, relaxation, affirmation, visualization and bonding—all designed to assist you to become empowered and confident, as you learn to trust the innate wisdom of your body to know how to birth your baby intuitively*.

Prenatal Classes
